Call to Worship
John 6:35,37,40,47-48

Leader:  Jesus said, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.

All:  For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day."

Leader:  Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life.

Praise the Lord Ye Heavens
Young Oceans, Harvest

Praise the Lord Ye heavens adore him
Praise him angels in the height
Sun and moon, rejoice before him
Praise him, all ye stars of light

Praise the Lord for he hath spoken
Worlds his mighty voice obeyed
Laws which never shall be broken
For their guidance he hath made

CHORUS:  All creation join the song of praise
Let every tongue declare His mighty ways
And we will sing of Your goodness and mercy all of our days

Praise the Lord for he is glorious
Never shall his promise fail
God hath made his saints victorious
Sin and death shall not prevail (CHORUS)

Glory! Glory! All glory to You Lord!

Praise the God of our salvation
Hosts on high, his power proclaim
Heaven and earth, and all creation
Laud and magnify his Name (CHORUS)

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Music: John Wyeth "Nettleton.” Words: Robert Robinson, ‎1757

Come Thou fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

Here I raise my Ebenezer
Hither by Thy help I've come
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

On that day when freed from sinning
I shall see Thy lovely face
Clothed then in my blood washed linen
How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace
Come, my Lord, do not tarry
Take my ransomed soul away
Send Thine angels now to carry
Me to realms of endless days

Confession of Sin
Psalm 32:1-7, 9-11

Leader:  Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

All:  For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.
I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Leader:  Let everyone who is godly offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him. You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance.

All:  Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you. Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD.

Leader:  Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

Silent Prayers of Confession

Assurance of Forgiveness
Psalm 32:10-11, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Leader:  If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is,

All:  ...in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Leader:  …steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD.

All:  Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

Come Ye Sinners
Joseph Hart; Robbie Seay Band; Shane and Shane; Davy Flowers

Come, ye sinners, poor and needy, weak and wounded, sick and sore
Jesus ready stands to save you full of pity, love, and power

CHORUS:
I will arise and go to Jesus
He will embrace me in His arms
In the arms of my dear Savior
Oh, there are ten thousand charms

Come, ye thirsty; come and welcome, God’s free bounty glorify
True belief and true repentance, every grace that brings you nigh

Come, ye weary, heavy laden, lost and ruined by the fall
If you tarry till you’re better, you will never come at all

Feel Him prostrate in the garden, on the ground your Maker lies
On the bloody tree, behold Him; Sinner, will this not suffice?

Lo! The incarnate God ascended pleads the merit of His blood
Venture on Him, venture wholly; Let no other trust intrude

Sermon Passage
2 Corinthians 7:2-16

2 Make room in your hearts for us. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have taken advantage of no one.  3 I do not say this to condemn you, for I said before that you are in our hearts, to die together and to live together.
4 I am acting with great boldness toward you; I have great pride in you; I am filled with comfort. In all our affliction, I am overflowing with joy.
5 For even when we came into Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were afflicted at every turn- fighting without and fear within.  6 But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus,  7 and not only by his coming but also by the comfort with which he was comforted by you, as he told us of your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced still more.
8 For even if I made you grieve with my letter, I do not regret it- though I did regret it, for I see that that letter grieved you, though only for a while.  9 As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us.  10 For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.  11 For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter.
12 So although I wrote to you, it was not for the sake of the one who did the wrong, nor for the sake of the one who suffered the wrong, but in order that your earnestness for us might be revealed to you in the sight of God.  13 Therefore we are comforted. And besides our own comfort, we rejoiced still more at the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all.  14 For whatever boasts I made to him about you, I was not put to shame. But just as everything we said to you was true, so also our boasting before Titus has proved true.  15 And his affection for you is even greater, as he remembers the obedience of you all, how you received him with fear and trembling.  16 I rejoice, because I have perfect confidence in you.

Pastor:  The grass withers and the flower fades...
All: ...but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

Sermon
"A Grief that Leads to … Joy"
Pastor Mike McBride

Psalm 116 (I Love You, Lord)
By Mission House

I love you, Lord, for You have delivered me
I love you, Lord, for You have delivered…

CHORUS:
My soul from death, my feet from stumbling
I will walk in the land of the living
My soul from death, my feet from stumbling
I will walk in the land of the living

I will bless You, Lord, for You heard my cry
I reached out my hand and You saved my life
I will bless You, Lord, for You heard my plea
And the God of Heaven turned His ear to me

I will bless You, Lord, for unending love
For Your grace and mercy raining down from above
I will bless You, Lord, to the very end
I will call on You as long as I may live

Come Behold (Psalm 46)
Thief to King

Come behold the wondrous works
Of the Lord Who reigns on high
Oh, be still and know that He is God
Our fortress He will be

God is our refuge and our strength, a very present aid
Therefore, although the earth gives way we will not be afraid
Though mountains move into the sea, though waters rage and foam
Although the hills may quake and fall, our hope is in the Lord

The nations rage and kingdoms move, their plotting is in vain
They all shall tremble at the voice of God above who reigns
Great desolation to the earth, He turns the wars to peace
He breaks the bow and shatters spear, all chariots to cease

All the glory to His name
O exalted He shall be
O be still and know that He is God
Our fortress He will be
Our fortress He will be
Our fortress He will be

Benediction
† We invite you to stretch out your hands as you receive the Lord’s blessing.
