Rejoice! The Lord Is King!
Charles Wesley (1744); Nathan Partain (2007)

Rejoice, the Lord is King; your Lord and King adore!
Rejoice, give thanks and sing, and triumph evermore
Lift up your heart; lift up your voice
Rejoice, I say, rejoice!

Jesus, the Savior, reigns; the God of truth and love
When He has purged our stains He took His seat above
Lift up your heart; lift up your voice
Rejoice, I say, rejoice!

His kingdom cannot fail, He rules o'er earth and heaven
The keys of death and hell are to our Jesus given
Lift up your heart; lift up your voice
Rejoice, I say, rejoice!

Rejoice in glorious hope; our Lord and judge shall come
And take His servants up to their eternal home
Lift up your heart; lift up your voice
Rejoice, I say, rejoice!
Rejoice, I say, rejoice

Call to Worship
Psalm 68:4-6

Leader:  Sing to God, sing praises to his name; lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts; his name is the LORD; exult before him! Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. God settles the solitary in a home; he leads out the prisoners to prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

Psalm 45 (O King)
Matthew Searles, Music by Holst

O King, you are most worthy, of men you are the best
Your words are true and gracious, you are forever blessed
Take up your sword in splendour, ride forth in majesty
For justice and mercy and true humility
Your arrows pierce your enemies, you march across the land
The peoples and the nations against you cannot stand

Your throne will last forever, with justice you shall reign
You love all that is righteous and hate all evil gain
So God has richly blessed you with joy abundantly
Your robes are all fragrant, your courts are ivory
There princesses attend you, sweet music from of old
Your future queen awaits you arrayed in finest gold

O bride forsake all others, don’t give your love abroad
The king desires your beauty; so honour him your Lord
The gown he gives is glorious, the threads are twined with gold
In shimmering colours the envy of the world
A joyful crowd is with her, with gladness now they sing
And finally she enters the palace of the king

This king will reign forever, his sons upon the earth
And ev’ry generation will tell of his great worth
All nations will soon praise him and fall down at his feet
His kingdom established, where truth and mercy meet
O Jesus we adore you, our lover and our king
Your church, your bride is waiting and so to you we sing

Confession of Sin
Psalm 51:1-4, 7-12

All:  Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.  Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!

For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.

Leader:  Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

All:  Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Silent Prayers of Confession

Assurance of Forgiveness
Hebrews 10:12-14, Psalm 51:8

Leader:  When Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

All:  In Jesus, I have been washed whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice.

Psalm 116 (I Love You, Lord)
By Mission House

I love you, Lord, for You have delivered me
I love you, Lord, for You have delivered…

CHORUS:
My soul from death, my feet from stumbling
I will walk in the land of the living
My soul from death, my feet from stumbling
I will walk in the land of the living

BRIDGE:
I will bless You, Lord, for You heard my cry
I reached out my hand and You saved my life
I will bless You, Lord, for You heard my plea
And the God of Heaven turned His ear to me

I will bless You, Lord, for unending love
For Your grace and mercy raining down from above
I will bless You, Lord, to the very end
I will call on You as long as I may live

We Need To Hear Your Word (Psalm 119:33-40)
Nathan Partain

Oh, we need to hear Your Word
Oh, we need to hear Your Word
Please don’t let Your branches wither or Your children die for thirst
Oh, we need to hear Your Word

Train our hearts to love what You command
We let go of our perceptions as You lead us by the hand
Every foreign step we trust You as we follow further on
As you give us your desire, we obey with all we are

Sermon Passage
Psalm 36

TO THE CHOIRMASTER. OF DAVID, THE SERVANT OF THE LORD.
Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes.  2 For he flatters himself in his own eyes that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated.  3 The words of his mouth are trouble and deceit; he has ceased to act wisely and do good.  4 He plots trouble while on his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he does not reject evil.  5 Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.  6 Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O LORD.  7 How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.  8 They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights.  9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.  10 Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your righteousness to the upright of heart!  11 Let not the foot of arrogance come upon me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.  12 There the evildoers lie fallen; they are thrust down, unable to rise.

Pastor:  The grass withers and the flower fades...
All:  ...but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

Thy Mercy
By John Stoker and Sandra McCracken

Thy mercy, my God is the theme of my song
The joy of my heart and the boast of my tongue
Thy free grace alone from the first to the last
Has won my affections and bound my soul fast

Without Thy sweet mercy I could not live here
Sin would reduce me to utter despair
But through Thy free goodness, my spirits revive
And He that first made me still keeps me alive

Thy mercy is more than a match for my heart
Which wonders to feel its own hardness depart
Dissolved by Thy goodness, I fall to the ground
And week for the praise of the mercy I found

Hallelujah!  Hallelujah!

Great Father of mercies, Thy goodness I own
And the covenant love of Thy crucified Son
All praise to the Spirit whose whisper divine
Seals mercy and pardon and righteousness mine
All praise to the Spirit whose whisper divine
Seals mercy and pardon and righteousness mine

The Nicene Creed
† The Nicene Creed originated at the Council of Nicea (325), and an expanded form was adopted by the Council of Chalcedon (451). It was formulated to answer heresies that denied the biblical doctrine of the Trinity and the person of Christ.

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who, for us and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the living and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets; and we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church; we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.

Arise, Shine, For Your Light Has Come (Isaiah 60:1-19)
By Jered McKenna; Cardiaphonia Music (2013)

Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of God is on you
Arise, see when the earth grows dark
that the Lord will arise upon you
The Lord will arise upon you

CHORUS:
Nations will come to your light
Lift up your eyes and see
We’ll gather together and come to you
And your love will be all that we know
Your love will be all that we know

Arise, come to the open gates, for the Father is welcoming you
Fear not, for the Lord brings peace and redemption to all who believe
Redemption to all who believe

BRIDGE:
The sun will not shine ‘cause You’ll be all the light that we need
And violence will end; all the wars that we wage will cease
The sun will not shine ‘cause You’ll be all the light that we need
And violence will end; all the wars that we wage will cease
We will glorify Your Name, We will glorify Your Name

Benediction
† We invite you to stretch out your hands as you receive the Lord’s blessing.
