Call to Worship
Psalm 25:1, 86:4, 143:8

Leader:  Lift up your heart.

All:  To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.

Leader:  Give thanks to the Lord.  Call upon his name.

All:  Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

Leader:  Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust.

All:  Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.

Psalm 107 (We Give Thanks)
Sovereign Grace Music

Once in the wilderness of our sin
We wandered lost and without hope
Into our desert waste God in grace
Came to restore and bring us home
Let the redeemed of God rise up and sing

CHORUS:
We give thanks, O God, for Your steadfast love
We give thanks, O God, for You are good, Lord, You are good
We give thanks

Through every pain and trial, You provide
Light in the dark of our distress
Lifting us from on high when we cry
Turning our grief to gratefulness
Let the redeemed of God rise up and sing

BRIDGE:
You take the darkness and make it as light
Hearts that were dead in sin, You raise to life
You take a barren place and make it a spring
Let the redeemed of God rise up and sing
Let the redeemed of God rise up and sing

Crown Him With Many Crowns
Lyrics: Matthew Bridges, 1851.

Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne
Hark! How the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own
Awake, my soul and sing of Him who died for thee
And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity

Crown Him the Lord of life who triumphed o'er the grave
Who rose victorious to the strife for those He came to save
His glories now we sing who died and rose on high
Who died eternal life to bring and lives that death may die

Crown Him the Lord of love, behold His hands and side
Rich wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified
No angel in the sky can fully bear that sight
But downward bends His burning eye at mysteries so bright

Awake, my soul and sing of Him who died for thee
And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity

Confession of Sin
John 14:12-17, Galatians 5:19-23

Leader:  "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. "If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

All:  Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Silent Prayers of Confession

All:  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Silent Prayers of Confession

God’s Assurance of Forgiveness
 John 14:26-27

Leader:  But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

All:  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Come Ye Sinners
Joseph Hart; Robbie Seay Band; Shane and Shane; Davy Flowers

Come, ye sinners, poor and needy, weak and wounded, sick and sore
Jesus ready stands to save you full of pity, love, and power

CHORUS:
I will arise and go to Jesus
He will embrace me in His arms
In the arms of my dear Savior
Oh, there are ten thousand charms

Come, ye thirsty; come and welcome, God’s free bounty glorify
True belief and true repentance, every grace that brings you nigh

Come, ye weary, heavy laden, lost and ruined by the fall
If you tarry till you’re better, you will never come at all

Feel Him prostrate in the garden, on the ground your Maker lies
On the bloody tree, behold Him; Sinner, will this not suffice?

Lo! The incarnate God ascended pleads the merit of His blood
Venture on Him, venture wholly; Let no other trust intrude

Sermon Passage
Acts 1:1-5

ESV Acts 1:1 In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach,  2 until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.  3 To them he presented himself alive after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.  4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me;  5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."

Leader:  The grass withers and the flower fades...
All:  ...but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

Yet Not I but Through Christ in Me
By CityAlight

What gift of grace is Jesus my Redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom
My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace
To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to His
Oh, how strange and divine, I can sing, all is mine
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

The night is dark, but I am not forsaken
For by my side, the Savior He will stay
I labour on in weakness and rejoicing
For in my need His power is displayed
To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me
Through the deepest valley He will lead
Oh, the night has been won, and I shall overcome
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven
The future sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And He was raised to overthrow the grave
To this I hold, my sin has been defeated
Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh, the chains are released, I can sing, I am free
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

With every breath I long to follow Jesus
For He has said that He will bring me home
And day by day I know He will renew me
Until I stand with joy before the throne
To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
All the glory evermore to Him
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and Earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell.*  The third day he rose again from the dead.  He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.  From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,** the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

* Latin Hades, which means the place of the dead.
** Holy catholic church refers to the church universal

On Christ The Solid Rock
By Edward Mote (1834); Arr: Justin Cofield

My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
but wholly lean on Jesus' name

When darkness veils His lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace
in every high and stormy gale
my anchor holds within the veil

CHORUS:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

His oath, His covenant, His blood
support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay

When He shall come with trumpet sound
O may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
faultless to stand before the throne  (Chorus)

BRIDGE:
All my hope is in You, All my strength is in You
All my hope is in You, All my strength is in You

Benediction
† We invite you to stretch out your hands as you receive the Lord’s blessing.
