Call to Worship
Isaiah 9:2-6

Leader:  The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined. For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire.

All:  For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Joy To the World
Arr. Chris Tomlin

Joy to the world, the Lord is come
Let Earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room
And Heaven and nature sing, and Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing

Joy to the world, the Savior reigns
Let all their songs employ
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy

CHORUS:
Joy, unspeakable joy
An overflowing well, no tongue can tell
Joy, unspeakable joy
Rises in my soul, never lets me go

He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love, and wonders of His love
And wonders, wonders, of His love

Gather ‘Round, Ye Children, Come
By Andrew Peterson

Gather ‘round ye children come Listen to the old, old story
Of the power of death undone By an infant born of glory
Son of God, Son of Man

Gather 'round, remember now How creation held its breath
How it let out a sigh and it filled up the sky with the angels
Son of God, Son of Man

CHORUS:
So, sing out with joy for the brave little boy
Who was God, but He made Himself nothin'
Well, He gave up His pride and He came here to die like a man

Therefore, God exalted Him to the place of highest praises
And He gave Him a name above every name that at the very name of Jesus
Son of God…

We would sing out with joy for the brave little boy
Who was God, but He made Himself nothin'
Well, He gave up His pride and He came here to die like a man

So, in heaven and earth and below every knee would bow in worship
Every tongue would proclaim Jesus, He reigns with the angels (Chorus) (Verse 1)

Confession of Our Sin
Romans 5:12,15

Leader:  …just as sin came into the world through one man (Adam), and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned …

All:  But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.

Silent Prayers

Assurance of God’s Forgiveness
Romans 5:16-6:2

Leader:  And the free gift is not like the result of that one man's sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification. If, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous. Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All:  What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?

O Savior Rend the Heavens Wide
F. von Spee, 17th century, tr. Martin L. Seltz. Music by Nathan Partain, 2019

O Savior rend the heavens wide;
Come down, come down with mighty stride;
Unlock the gates, the doors break down
Unbar the way to heaven’s crown

O Morning Star, O radiant Sun,
When shall our hearts behold your dawn?
O Sun, arise; without your light
We grope in gloom and dark of night.

Sin’s dreadful doom upon us lies;
Grim death looms fierce before our eyes.
Oh, come lead us, with mighty hand
Through exile to the promised land.

There shall we all our praises sing
Ever to you, our Savior King;
There shall we laud you and adore
Forever and forever more.

Sermon Passage
Genesis 1:26-27, Genesis 2:15-17

1:26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."  27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

2:15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.  16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, "You may surely eat of every tree of the garden,  17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die."

Leader:  The word of God...
All:  ...will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8b)

Behold the Lamb of God
Andrew Peterson, 2004.

We who walk in darkness deep
Now see the light of morning
The Mighty God, the Prince of Peace
A child to us is born

CHORUS:
Behold, the Lamb of God
Who takes away our sin
Behold, the Lamb of God
The life and light of men
Behold, the Lamb of God
Who died and rose again
Behold the Lamb of God who comes
To take away our sin

Wanderers in the wilderness
O hear a voice is crying
Prepare the way, make straight the path
Your King has come to die

BRIDGE:
Son of God (Emmanuel)
Son of Man (We praise You)
Behold (Behold) the Lamb
The hope (the hope) of man
Behold the Lamb

Let The Nations Be Glad
By Matt Boswell, Aaron Boswell, Matt Papa.

Let the glory of the Lord forever be our joy
May redemption be the theme of our song
For by grace we have been saved and by grace we shall proclaim
To the corners of the earth that Christ has come

CHORUS:
Let the nations be glad; Let the people rejoice
For salvation belongs to our God
Let the whole earth be filled with the praises of the Lord
For salvation belongs to our God; Let the nations be glad

Through the ages gone before; through the trial and the sword
Many saints and martyrs conquered though they died
Still we're holding out the cross, crossing oceans, suffering loss
Shall endure all things to win the crown of life (Chorus)

As Your holy church goes forth in the Holy Spirit's power
With the glories of the gospel to explain
Now we pray Your kingdom come, and we pray Your will be done
For the honor and the glory of Your Name (Chorus)

Benediction
† We invite you to stretch out your hands as you receive the Lord’s blessing.
