Call to Worship
Psalm 8:1-9
TO THE CHOIRMASTER: ACCORDING TO THE GITTITH. A PSALM OF DAVID.

LEADER:  O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.
ALL:  When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
LEADER:  Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
ALL:  O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Prayer of Adoration

Crown Him With Many Crowns
Lyrics: Matthew Bridges, 1851.  Arrangement: Perimeter Music.

Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne
Hark! How the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own; all music but its own
Awake, my soul and sing of Him who died for thee
And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity; through all eternity

Crown Him the Lord of life who triumphed o'er the grave
Who rose victorious to the strife for those He came to save; for those He came to save
His glories now we sing who died and rose on high
Who died eternal life to bring and lives that death may die; He lives that death may die

Crown Him the Lord of love, behold His hands and side
Rich wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified; in beauty glorified
All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou hast died for me
Thy praise and glory shall not fail through all eternity; though all eternity

Awake, my soul and sing of Him who died for thee
And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity; through all eternity

Whatever My God Ordains Is Right
Sovereign Grace Music, Bob Kauflin

Whate'er my God ordains is right; His holy will abideth
I will be still, whate'er He does; And follow where He guideth
He is my God, though dark my road; He holds me that I shall not fall
And so to Him I leave it all; And so to Him I leave it all

Whate'er my God ordains is right; He never will deceive me
He leads me by the proper path; I know He will not leave me
I take, content, what He hath sent; His hand can turn my griefs away
And patiently I wait His day; And patiently I wait His day

Whate'er my God ordains is right; Though now this cup, in drinking
May bitter seem to my faint heart; I take it, all unshrinking
My God is true, each morn anew; Sweet comfort yet shall fill my heart
And pain and sorrow shall depart; And pain and sorrow shall depart

Whate'er my God ordains is right; Here shall my stand be taken
Though sorrow, need, or death be mine; Yet am I not forsaken
My Father's care is ‘round me there; He holds me that I shall not fall
And so to Him I leave it all; And so to Him I leave it all

Confession of Sin and Assurance of Forgiveness
Psalm 90:1-17
A PRAYER OF MOSES, THE MAN OF GOD.

ALL:  Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. You return man to dust and say, "Return, O children of man!" For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night.
LEADER:  You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning: in the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers. For we are brought to an end by your anger; by your wrath we are dismayed.
ALL:  You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. For all our days pass away under your wrath; we bring our years to an end like a sigh. The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away.
LEADER:  Who considers the power of your anger, and your wrath according to the fear of you?
ALL:  So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Return, O LORD! How long? Have pity on your servants! Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen evil. Let your work be shown to your servants, and your glorious power to their children. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!

Silent Prayers

Psalm 116 (I Love You, Lord)
By Mission House

I love you, Lord, for You have delivered me
I love you, Lord, for You have delivered…

CHORUS:
My soul from death, my feet from stumbling
I will walk in the land of the living
My soul from death, my feet from stumbling
I will walk in the land of the living

I will bless You, Lord, for You heard my cry
I reached out my hand and You saved my life
I will bless You, Lord, for You heard my plea
And the God of Heaven turned His ear to me

I will bless You, Lord, for unending love
For Your grace and mercy raining down from above
I will bless You, Lord, to the very end
I will call on You as long as I may live

Sermon Passage
Ecclesiastes 3:16-22

16 Moreover, I saw under the sun that in the place of justice, even there was wickedness, and in the place of righteousness, even there was wickedness.  17 I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time for every matter and for every work.  18 I said in my heart with regard to the children of man that God is testing them that they may see that they themselves are but beasts.  19 For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.  20 All go to one place. All are from the dust, and to dust all return.  21 Who knows whether the spirit of man goes upward and the spirit of the beast goes down into the earth?  22 So I saw that there is nothing better than that a man should rejoice in his work, for that is his lot. Who can bring him to see what will be after him?

LEADER:  The grass withers, the flower fades...
ALL:  ...but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

The Day Of The Lord
By Wendell Kimbrough (2017)

It’s not long ’til the boastful are silenced and shamed
It’s not long ‘til the wealth of the wicked’s reclaimed
And the ones who have waited with eyes on the Lord
Will shine like the sun forevermore
It’s not long ’til the Day of the Lord

Just be still and be faithful and dwell in the land
Put your trust in the Savior and cling to His hand
When your heart burns with anger for all that is wrong
Do not let the dark steal your song
It’s not long ’til the Day of the Lord

CHORUS:
It’s not long ’til the Day of the Lord
It’s not long ’til the Day of the Lord
Everything that is broken will soon be restored
It’s not long ’til the Day of the Lord

Do not fear for the wicked with weapons of war
For the Lord is the shelter and strength of the poor
And our God comes with laughter, let Him be your joy
The power of the sword He’ll destroy
It’s not long ’til the Day of the Lord

The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and Earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell.*  The third day he rose again from the dead.  He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.  From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,** the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

* Latin Hades, which means the place of the dead.
** Holy catholic church refers to the church universal

Psalm 107 (We Give Thanks)
Sovereign Grace Music

Once in the wilderness of our sin
We wandered lost and without hope
Into our desert waste God in grace
Came to restore and bring us home
Let the redeemed of God rise up and sing

CHORUS:
We give thanks, O God, for Your steadfast love
We give thanks, O God, for You are good, Lord, You are good
We give thanks

Through every pain and trial, You provide
Light in the dark of our distress
Lifting us from on high when we cry
Turning our grief to gratefulness
Let the redeemed of God rise up and sing

You take the darkness and make it as light
Hearts that were dead in sin, You raise to life
You take a barren place and make it a spring
Let the redeemed of God rise up and sing
Let the redeemed of God rise up and sing

Benediction
† We invite you to stretch out your hands as you receive the Lord’s blessing.
