Call to Worship
Isaiah 40:6-11
LEADER: A voice says, "Cry!" And I said, "What shall I cry?"
ALL: All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field.
LEADER: The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the LORD blows on it; surely the people are grass.
ALL: The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.
LEADER: Get you up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good news; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good news; lift it up, fear not; say to the cities of Judah, "Behold your God!"
ALL: Behold, the Lord GOD comes with might, and his arm rules for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.
Psalm 127 (Unless the Lord)
The Corner Room
CHORUS:
Unless the Lord builds the house
Those who build it labor in vain
Unless the Lord watches over the city
The watchman stays awake in vain
It is in vain that you rise up early
And go late to rest
Eating the bread of anxious toil
For he gives to his beloved sleep
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord
The fruit of the womb a reward
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
Are the children of one’s youth
BRIDGE:
Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
When he speaks with his enemies in the gate
Grace Will Prevail
Wendell Kimbrough
Grace will prevail, though the darkness is strong
And the burden weighs heavy and long
Grace will prevail, for our God is the Light
Rending the cover of night; Grace will prevail
Grace will prevail, in the valleys of shame
Where the echoes of failure remain
Grace will prevail, with the cry to the Lord
There's a mountain of mercy in store; Grace will prevail
CHORUS:
Wait for the Lord our God; Wait for the Lord our God
Wait for the Lord, our rest and reward and our peace
Grace will prevail, through the wreckage and storm
And the brokenness washed on the shore
Grace will prevail, though an ocean we cry
He is with us and weeps by our side
Till the day they forever run dry
BRIDGE:
Take heart, he has overcome the world, He has overcome
Take heart, he has overcome the world, He has overcome
Take heart, he has overcome the world, He has overcome
Take heart, he has overcome the world
Confession of Sin
Joel 2:12-13, Proverbs 10:19-21, 17:27-28
LEADER: "Yet even now," declares the LORD, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments." Return to the LORD, your God, *for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.
ALL: When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.
LEADER: The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the heart of the wicked is of little worth.
ALL: The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense.
LEADER: Whoever restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
ALL: Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.
* Explore how often this phrase is used to describe God in Scripture: Ex 34:6, Num 14:18, Neh 9:17, Ps 86:15, 103:8, 145:8, Jonah 4:2.
Silent Prayers
Assurance of Forgiveness
1 Peter 2:21-25
LEADER: For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.
ALL: He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
LEADER: For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
He Will Hold Me Fast
Keith and Kristen Getty
When I fear my faith will fail, Christ will hold me fast;
When the tempter would prevail, He will hold me fast.
I could never keep my hold through life's fearful path;
For my love is often cold; He must hold me fast.
CHORUS:
He will hold me fast, He will hold me fast;
For my Savior loves me so, He will hold me fast.
Those He saves are His delight, Christ will hold me fast;
Precious in his holy sight, He will hold me fast.
He'll not let my soul be lost; His promises shall last;
Bought by Him at such a cost, He will hold me fast.
For my life He bled and died, Christ will hold me fast;
Justice has been satisfied; He will hold me fast.
Raised with Him to endless life, He will hold me fast
‘Till our faith is turned to sight, When He comes at last!
Prayers of Thanksgiving and Petition
Matthew 6:5-15
LEADER: "And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. "And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this:
ALL: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
LEADER: For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Sermon Passage
Ecclesiastes 5:1-9
5:1 Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. To draw near to listen is better than to offer the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they are doing evil. 2 Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few. 3 For a dream comes with much business, and a fool's voice with many words. 4 When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow. 5 It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay. 6 Let not your mouth lead you into sin, and do not say before the messenger that it was a mistake. Why should God be angry at your voice and destroy the work of your hands? 7 For when dreams increase and words grow many, there is vanity; but God is the one you must fear.
8 If you see in a province the oppression of the poor and the violation of justice and righteousness, do not be amazed at the matter, for the high official is watched by a higher, and there are yet higher ones over them. 9 But this is gain for a land in every way: a king committed to cultivated fields.
LEADER: The grass withers, the flower fades...
ALL: ...but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

Psalm 100 (Old 100th)
By Louis Bourgeois (1551); Arr. Celtic Worship (2021)
All people that on earth do dwell
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice
Him serve with fear, His praise forth tell
Come ye before Him and rejoice
The Lord, ye know, is God indeed
Without our aid, He did us make
We are His flock, He doth us feed
And for His sheep, He doth us take
CHORUS:
Yahweh, into Your courts
We enter with thankful hearts
O faithful God, Your love endures
Yahweh, into Your courts
We enter with thankful hearts
O faithful God, Your love endures
O enter, then, His gates with praise
Approach with joy His courts unto
Praise laud and bless His name always
For it is seemly so to do
For why the Lord, our God, is good
His mercy is forever sure
His truth, at all times, firmly stood
And shall from age to age endure (Chorus)
The Lord’s Supper

Let every tongue declare His mighty ways

God hath made his saints victorious
Sin and death shall not prevail
