Call to Worship
Proverbs 1:20-23, 2:1-5

Leader:  Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:
All:  "How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you.
Leader:  My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding;
All:  yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures,
Leader:  ...then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

All My Ways Are Known to You
CityAlight

In days of peace and days of rest
In times of loss and loneliness
Though rich or poor, Your word is true
That all my ways are known to You

No trial has come beyond Your hand
No step I walk beyond Your plan
The path is dark outside my view
Still all my ways are known to You

CHORUS:
And oh what peace that I have found wherever I may be
For all my ways are known to You Hallelujah, they are known to You!

I do not fear the final night
For death will be the door to life
You take my hand and lead me through
For all my ways are known to You

BRIDGE:
Open up my eyes so I may see
That You have made these ways for me
Open up my eyes so I may see
That You my God, will walk with me

Confession of Sin
Proverbs 3:3-12

Leader:  Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.
All:  Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Leader:  Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
All:  Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
Leader:  My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of his reproof,
All:  for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.

Silent Prayers

Assurance of Forgiveness

Galatians 4:4-7 (v.7 in first person)

Leader:  But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying,
All:  "Abba! Father!" So we are no longer slaves, but sons and daughters, and if sons and daughters, then heirs through God.

In Christ Alone
Stewart Townend

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My comforter, my all in all
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save

Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
'Til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

Yet Not I but Through Christ in Me
By CityAlight

What gift of grace is Jesus my Redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom
My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace
To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to His
Oh, how strange and divine, I can sing, all is mine
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

The night is dark, but I am not forsaken
For by my side, the Savior He will stay
I labour on in weakness and rejoicing
For in my need His power is displayed
To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me
Through the deepest valley He will lead
Oh, the night has been won, and I shall overcome
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven
The future sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And He was raised to overthrow the grave
To this I hold, my sin has been defeated
Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh, the chains are released, I can sing, I am free
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

With every breath I long to follow Jesus
For He has said that He will bring me home
And day by day I know He will renew me
Until I stand with joy before the throne
To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
All the glory evermore to Him
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

Sermon Passage
Ecclesiastes 9:13-10:20

13 I have also seen this example of wisdom under the sun, and it seemed great to me.  14 There was a little city with few men in it, and a great king came against it and besieged it, building great siegeworks against it.  15 But there was found in it a poor, wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that poor man.  16 But I say that wisdom is better than might, though the poor man's wisdom is despised and his words are not heard.  17 The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools.  18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.
10:1 Dead flies make the perfumer's ointment give off a stench; so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.  2 A wise man's heart inclines him to the right, but a fool's heart to the left.  3 Even when the fool walks on the road, he lacks sense, and he says to everyone that he is a fool.  4 If the anger of the ruler rises against you, do not leave your place, for calmness will lay great offenses to rest.  5 There is an evil that I have seen under the sun, as it were an error proceeding from the ruler:  6 folly is set in many high places, and the rich sit in a low place.  7 I have seen slaves on horses, and princes walking on the ground like slaves.  8 He who digs a pit will fall into it, and a serpent will bite him who breaks through a wall.  9 He who quarries stones is hurt by them, and he who splits logs is endangered by them.  10 If the iron is blunt, and one does not sharpen the edge, he must use more strength, but wisdom helps one to succeed.  11 If the serpent bites before it is charmed, there is no advantage to the charmer.  12 The words of a wise man's mouth win him favor, but the lips of a fool consume him.  13 The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness, and the end of his talk is evil madness.  14 A fool multiplies words, though no man knows what is to be, and who can tell him what will be after him?  15 The toil of a fool wearies him, for he does not know the way to the city.  16 Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child, and your princes feast in the morning!  17 Happy are you, O land, when your king is the son of the nobility, and your princes feast at the proper time, for strength, and not for drunkenness!  18 Through sloth the roof sinks in, and through indolence the house leaks.  19 Bread is made for laughter, and wine gladdens life, and money answers everything.  20 Even in your thought, do not curse the king, nor in your bedroom curse the rich, for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter.

Leader:  The grass withers, the flower fades...
All:  ...but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

Sermon
"A Little Folly, A Little Wisdom"
Pastor Mike McBride

Wisdom From Above
Words and Music by Jason Barrows

Father of lights
You’re the joy in our trials
In Christ, we stand
Lift up our hands
And sing, be glorified!

Give us wisdom from above
For your wisdom is enough

Father of lights
You’re the joy in our trials
You cover our sin
So we’ll sing again,
Won’t you be glorified!

The Lord’s Supper

His Mercy is More
ASCAP Publisher Number: 160234 // ASCAP Writer Number:  1721724 (Matt Papa).

CHORUS:
Praise the Lord.  His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness.  New every morn’
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

What love could remember, no wrongs we have done
Omniscient, all-knowing, He counts not their sum
Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

What patience would wait as we constantly roam
What Father so tender is calling us home
He welcomes the weakest, the vilest, the poor
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

What riches of kindness He lavished on us
His blood was the payment His life was the cost
We stood ‘neath a debt we could never afford
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

Benediction
† We invite you to stretch out your hands as you receive the Lord’s blessing.
