Call to Worship
Psalm 146:1-10
All: Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
Leader: Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.
All: Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever;
Leader: who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets the prisoners free; the LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous.
All: The LORD watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
Leader: The LORD will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations.
All: Praise the LORD!
Crown Him With Many Crowns
By Matthew Bridges (1851); Godfrey Thring (1871)
Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne
Hark! How the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own
Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee
And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity
Crown Him the Lord of life who triumphed over the grave
Who rose victorious to the strife for those He came to save
His glories now we sing, who died and rose on high
Who died eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die
Crown Him the Lord of love, behold His hands and side
Rich wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified
No angel in the sky can fully bear that sight
But downward bends his burning eye at mysteries so bright
Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee
And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity
Christ Our Hope In Life And Death
by Keith Getty, Matt Boswell, Jordan Kauflin, Matt Merker, Matt Papa
What is our hope in life and death? Christ alone, Christ alone
What is our only confidence? That our souls to Him belong
Who holds our days within His hand?
What comes, apart from His command?
And what will keep us to the end?
The love of Christ, in which we stand
CHORUS:
O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal
O sing hallelujah! Now and ever we confess
Christ our hope in life and death
What truth can calm the troubled soul? God is good, God is good
Where is His grace and goodness known? In our great Redeemer’s blood
Who holds our faith when fears arise? Who stands above the stormy trial?
Who sends the waves that bring us nigh, unto the shore, the rock of Christ?
Unto the grave, what shall we sing? “Christ, He lives; Christ, He lives!”
And what reward will heaven bring? Everlasting life with Him
There we will rise to meet the Lord, then sin and death will be destroyed,
And we will feast in endless joy, when Christ is ours forevermore
Now and ever we confess, Christ our hope in life and death
Confession of Sin
Galatians 5:13-6:2
Leader: For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word:
All: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
Leader: But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another. But I say,
All: walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh,
Leader: for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
All: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Leader: And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
All: Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.
Leader: Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Silent Prayers
Assurance of Forgiveness
1 Peter 3:15, 18, 2:24
Leader: For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,
All: He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.
Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Thomas Obediah Chishom, William Marion Runyan.
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father
There is no shadow of turning with Thee
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be
CHORUS:
Great is Thy faithfulness, great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me
Summer and winter and springtime and harvest
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine with ten thousand beside

Sermon Passage
1 Peter 4:1-7
ESV 1 Peter 4:1 Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2 so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God. 3 The time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry. 4 With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you; 5 but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6 For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does. 7 The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.
Leader: All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls,
All: ...but the word of the Lord remains forever. (1 Peter 1:24-25)

Thy Mercy
By John Stoker and Sandra McCracken
Thy mercy, my God is the theme of my song
The joy of my heart and the boast of my tongue
Thy free grace alone from the first to the last
Has won my affections and bound my soul fast
Without Thy sweet mercy I could not live here
Sin would reduce me to utter despair
But through Thy free goodness, my spirits revive
And He that first made me still keeps me alive
Thy mercy is more than a match for my heart
Which wonders to feel its own hardness depart
Dissolved by Thy goodness, I fall to the ground
And week for the praise of the mercy I found Hallelujah!
Great Father of mercies, Thy goodness I own
And the covenant love of Thy crucified Son
All praise to the Spirit whose whisper divine
Seals mercy and pardon and righteousness mine
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Arise, Shine, For Your Light Has Come (Isaiah 60:1-19)
By Jered McKenna; Cardiaphonia Music (2013)
Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of God is on you
Arise, see when the earth grows dark
that the Lord will arise upon you
The Lord will arise upon you
CHORUS:
Nations will come to your light
Lift up your eyes and see
We’ll gather together and come to you
And your love will be all that we know
Your love will be all that we know
Arise, come to the open gates, for the Father is welcoming you
Fear not, for the Lord brings peace and redemption to all who believe
Redemption to all who believe
BRIDGE:
The sun will not shine ‘cause You’ll be all the light that we need
And violence will end; all the wars that we wage will cease
The sun will not shine ‘cause You’ll be all the light that we need
And violence will end; all the wars that we wage will cease
We will glorify Your Name, We will glorify Your Name
Benediction
† We invite you to stretch out your hands as you receive the Lord’s blessing.
