Call to Worship
Psalm 33:1-5

Leader:  Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!
All:  Praise befits the upright.
Leader:  Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
All:  make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
Leader:  Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.
All:  For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness.  He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.

Prayer of Adoration

Praise to the Lord, The Almighty
By: Joachim Neander (1680); Trans. by: Catherine Winkworth (1863); Nathan & Christy Nockels (2004)

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation
O my soul, praise Him, for He is your health and salvation
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near
Praise Him in glad adoration

Praise to the Lord, who o'er all things so wondrously reigneth
Shelters thee under His wings, Yea so gently sustaineth
Hast thou not seen how thy desires e’er have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?

Hallelujah!  Hallelujah!  Hallelujah!  Hallelujah!

Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do
If with His love He befriend thee

Praise to the Lord! Oh, let all that is in me adore Him
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him
Let the amen sound from his people again
Gladly for aye we adore Him
Let the amen sound from his people again
Gladly for aye we adore Him

Hallelujah!  Hallelujah!  Hallelujah!  Hallelujah!

All Hail The Power Of Jesusʼ Name
By: Edward Perronet, Oliver Holden;  Arr: Jaron Kamin

All hail the power of Jesusʼ Name   Let angels prostrate fall
Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all
Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all

Ye chosen seed of Israelʼs race, ye ransomed from the fall
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace, and crown Him Lord of all
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace, and crown Him Lord of all

Let every kindred, every tribe on this terrestrial ball
To Him all majesty ascribe and crown Him Lord of all
To Him all majesty ascribe and crown Him Lord of all

O that, with yonder sacred throng, we at His feet may fall
Weʼll join the everlasting song, and crown Him Lord of all
Weʼll join the everlasting song, and crown Him Lord of all

Confession of Sin
1 Corinthians 13:1-3

Leader:  If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love,
All:  I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
Leader:  And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love,
All:  I am nothing.
Leader:  If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love,
All:  I gain nothing.

Silent Prayers

Assurance of Forgiveness
1 Corinthians 13:4-8a

Leader:  Love is patient and kind;
All:  love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

A Christian’s Daily Prayer
by Dave Fournier, Matt Merker, and Jordan Kauflin

As morning dawns and day awakes, to You I bring my need
O gracious God, my source of strength, in You I live and breathe
Each hour is Yours by wisdom planned,
Each deed empowered by sovereign hands
Renew my spirit, help me stand; Be glorified today

As day unfolds, I seek Your will in all of life’s demands
And though the tempter tries me still, I cling to Your commands
Let every effort of my life
Display the matchless worth of Christ
Make me a living sacrifice; Be glorified today

As sun gives way to darkest night Your Spirit still is here
And though my strength fades like the light new mercies will appear
I rest in You; abide with me
Until our trials and suffering
Give way to final victory;  Be glorified, today

I rest in You; abide with me
Until our trials and suffering
Give way to final victory;  Be glorified, today…  Be glorified, I (we) pray

The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and Earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell.*  The third day he rose again from the dead.  He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.  From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,** the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

* Latin Hades, which means the place of the dead.
** Holy catholic church refers to the church universal

Sermon Passage
1 Peter 4:8-19

8 Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.  9 Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.  10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:  11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies- in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.  13 But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.  14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.  15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler.  16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.  17 For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?  18 And "If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?"  19 Therefore let those who suffer according to God's will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.

Leader:  All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass.  The grass withers, and the flower falls...
All:  ...but the word of the Lord remains forever.  (1 Peter 1:24-25)

My Worth is Not in What I Own
Keith Getty, Kristyn Getty, and Graham Kendrick (2014)

My worth is not in what I own
Not in the strength of flesh and bone
But in the costly wounds of love
At the cross
My worth is not in skill or name
In win or lose, in pride or shame
But in the blood of Christ that flowed
At the cross

CHORUS:
I rejoice in my Redeemer
Greatest treasure
Wellspring of my soul
I will trust in Him, no other
My soul is satisfied in Him alone

As summer flowers we fade and die
Fame, youth and beauty hurry by
But life eternal calls to us
At the cross
I will not boast in wealth or might
Or human wisdom's fleeting light
But I will boast in knowing Christ
At the cross

(CHORUS)

Two wonders here that I confess
My worth and my unworthiness
My value fixed, my ransom paid

No Place Better (Psalm 84)
By Caroline Cobb

How lovely is Your dwelling place
How wonderful Your presence, Lord
How my soul longs to see Your face
To come with joy into Your courts
How blessed is the little sparrow
Who makes a nest inside Your house
‘Cause I can think of no place better
To make a home and sing out loud

CHORUS:
I want to be in Your presence
I want to be near Your heart
I want to know You’re close
Even when I’m feeling far
I don’t want what this world would offer
I want the living God
‘Cause there’s no place better
Than where You are

We will go from strength to strength
Even in the wilderness
You are turning tears to desert springs
Leaving gardens in our footsteps
How blessed is the longing pilgrim
Whose heart is set on Zion’s hill
The one who knows there’s no place better
To bring our sorrows and be filled (Chorus)

BRIDGE:
One day with You
Is better than a thousand elsewhere
One word from You
Is better than silver or gold
I’d rather be; a servant in Your house, oh God
Than a king with all the riches I could hold (Chorus)

Benediction
† We invite you to stretch out your hands as you receive the Lord’s blessing.
