Call to Worship
Isaiah 40:3-8

Leader:  A voice cries: "In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD;
All:  make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken."
Leader:  A voice says, "Cry!" And I said, "What shall I cry?"
All:  All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field.
Leader:  The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the LORD blows on it; surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades,
All:  but the word of our God will stand forever.

Prayer of Adoration

The Lord Almighty Reigns
By Keith and Kristyn Getty, Matt Boswell, Matt Papa; Arr: Paul Campbell

There's an endless song waiting to be sung
With the voice of every tribe, the sound of every tongue
When the bride of Christ on that day of days
Brings with joy unto the land a multitude of praise
Like the roar of mighty seas and rolls of thunder
Hear His people sing

CHORUS:
Hallelujah; Hallelujah
For the Lord Almighty reigns
Hallelujah, hallelujah
For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns

We will join the feast, rest from battles won
Tell with great rejoicing all the wonders God has donе

Certain of that day, Christ we will proclaim
Oh, that more would share the prize, salvation in His name
Then greater will the anthem ring
A mighty chorus rising to the King

Abide
by Aaron Williams, Aaron Keyes, Jake Fauber (2023).

For my waking breath, for my daily bread
I depend on You, I depend on You
For the sun to rise, for my sleep at night
I depend on You, I depend on You

You're the way, the truth and the life;
You're the well that never runs dry
I'm the branch and You are the vine;
Draw me close and teach me to abide

Where the Spirit leads as I'm following
I depend on You, yes I depend on You
For the victories still in front of me
I depend on You, yes I depend on You

You're the way, the truth and the life;
You're the well that never runs dry
I'm the branch and You are the vine;
Draw me close and teach me to abide
Be my strength, my song in the night;
Be my all, my treasure, my prize
I am Yours forever You're mine;
Draw me close and teach me to abide

When I pass through death as I enter rest
I depend on You, I depend on You
For eternal life to be raised with Christ
I depend on You, I depend on You

I depend on You, I depend on You
I depend on You, I depend on You

Confession of Sin
Exodus 20:12-17, Matthew 5:17-20, 33-37

Leader:  "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
All:  "You shall not murder.
"You shall not commit adultery.
"You shall not steal.
"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Leader:  "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's."
Leader:  "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
All:  "Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.' But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything more than this comes from evil.

Silent Prayers of Confession

Assurance of Forgiveness
Ephesians 2:12-16

All:  …remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.

This Is My Father’s World
By: Maltbie D. Babcock (1901); Arr: Mission House (2023)

This is my Father's world and to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings, the music of the spheres
This is my Father's world; I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas
His hand the wonders wrought

This is my Father's world, the birds their carols raise
The morning light, the lily white, declare their Maker's praise
This is my Father's world; He shines in all that's fair
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass
He speaks to me everywhere

This is my Father's world, O let me ne'er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong
God is the Ruler yet
This is my Father's world; Why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King: let the heavens ring!
God reigns; let earth be glad!

This is my Father's world; Why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King: let the heavens ring!
God reigns; let earth be glad

Sermon Passage
John 8:30-38

36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you.
38 I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father." 39 They answered him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing what Abraham did, 40 but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. 41 You are doing what your father did." They said to him, "We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father- even God." 42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me. 43 Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. 46 Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? 47 Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God." "

Leader:  The grass withers, the flower fades,
All:  but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

Sermon
"Jesus Presses the Issue"
Pastor Mike McBride

Be Thou My Vision
Translated 1905 from the old Irish hymn “Bi Thusa ‘mo Shuile” by Mary E. Byrne. Arr. Ascend the Hill, 2010.

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best thought, by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light

Be Thou my wisdom, Thou my true word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord
Thou my great Father, and I Thy true son
Thou in me dwelling and I with Thee one

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise
Thou mine inheritance, now and always
Thou and Thou only first in my heart
High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art

BRIDGE:
Oh God, be my everything, be my delight
Be, Jesus, my glory, my soul satisfied

High King of heaven, my victory won
May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heaven's sun
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall
Still be my vision, O ruler of all; Still be my vision, O ruler of all

On Earth as in Heaven right here in my heart

As we forgive the ones who sin against us, forgive them
And lead us not into temptation, but deliv - er us from the еvil one
