Call to Worship
Psalm 32:6-11, Romans 4:7-8

Leader:  …let everyone who is godly offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him.
All:  You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance.  Selah
Leader:  I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you.
All:  Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD.
Leader:  Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
All:  "Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin."

Holy, Holy, Holy
Words: Reginald Heber, 1826. Music: Nicaea, John B. Dykes, 1861. Public Domain

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee.
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Who wert and art and ever more shall be.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth, and sky, and sea;
Holy, holy, holy; merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

In Tenderness
By W. Spencer Walton (1894); Arr. by Citizens

In tenderness He sought me; weary and sick with sin
And on His shoulders brought me back to His fold again
While angels in His presence sang; until the courts of heaven rang

CHORUS:
Oh oh oh, the love that sought me!
Oh oh oh, the blood that bought me!
Oh, the grace that brought me to the fold of God
Grace that brought me to the fold of God

He died for me while I was sinning needy and poor and blind
He whispered to assure me, ”I've found thee; thou art Mine"
I never heard a sweeter voice; it made my aching heart rejoice

Upon His grace I'll ponder and sing anew His praise
With all adoring wonder His blessings I retrace
It seems as if eternal days are far too short to sing His praise

Confession of Sin
Romans 3:10b-18
† If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  1 John 1:9

Leader:  …all, both Jews and Greeks, are under the power of sin, as it is written:
All:  "None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God.
Leader:  All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one."
All:  "Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive." "The venom of asps is under their lips."
Leader:  "Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness."
All:  "Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 in their paths are ruin and misery, and the way of peace they have not known."
Leader:  "There is no fear of God before their eyes."

Our Confession
† Silent Prayer of Confession

Assurance of Forgiveness
Romans 8:1-5

Leader:  There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
All:  For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
Leader:  For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh,
All:  but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

Hold Thou My Hand
Lyrics: Fanny Crosby, 1874; Music: Nathan Partain, 2015

Hold Thou my hand; so weak I am and helpless
I dare not take one step without Thy aid
Hold Thou my hand, for then, O loving Savior
No dread of ill shall make my soul afraid

Hold Thou my hand and closer, draw me closer
To Thy dear self, my hope, my joy, my all
Hold Thou my hand, lest happily I should wander
And missing Thee, my trembling feet should fall

Hold Thou my hand; the way is dark before me
Without the sunlight of Thy face divine
But when by faith I catch its radiant glory
What heights of joy, what rapturous songs are mine

Hold Thou my hand, that when I reach the margin
Of that lone river Thou didst cross for me
A heavenly light may flash along its waters
And every wave like crystal bright shall be

Hold Thou my hand; so weak I am and helpless
I dare not take one step without Thy aid
I dare not take one step without Thy aid

Heidelberg Confession Question #1
Q: What is your only comfort in life and death?
A: That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from tall the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by his Holy Spirit he also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for him.

Sermon Passage
Psalm 23

1  A PSALM OF DAVID.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Leader:  The grass withers, the flower fades,
All:  ...but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

Sermon
"The Lord is My Shepherd"
Pastor Terry Fox

King of Love (Psalm 23)
Henry Williams Baker. arr. I Am They

The King of love my Shepherd is whose goodness faileth never
I nothing lack if I am His and He is mine forever, and He is mine forever

Where streams of living water flow my ransomed soul He leadeth
And where the verdant pastures grow with food celestial feedeth

CHORUS:
Never failing ruler of my heart
Everlasting lover of my soul
On the mountain high or in the valley low
The King of love my Shepherd is
The King of love my Shepherd is

Lost and foolish oft I strayed but yet in love He sought me
And on His shoulder gently laid and home, rejoicing, brought me

In death's dark vale I fear no ill with Thee, dear Lord, beside me
Thy rod and staff my comfort still, Thy cross before to guide me

BRIDGE:
Oh——— Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Oh——— Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

And so through all the length of days, Thy goodness faileth never
Good Shepherd, may I sing Your praise within Your house forever.
Within Your house forever.

All:  For his steadfast love endures forever,

Christ Our Hope In Life And Death
by Keith Getty, Matt Boswell, Jordan Kauflin, Matt Merker, Matt Papa

What is our hope in life and death? Christ alone, Christ alone
What is our only confidence? That our souls to Him belong
Who holds our days within His hand?
What comes, apart from His command?
And what will keep us to the end?
The love of Christ, in which we stand

CHORUS:
O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal
O sing hallelujah! Now and ever we confess
Christ our hope in life and death

What truth can calm the troubled soul? God is good, God is good
Where is His grace and goodness known? In our great Redeemer’s blood
Who holds our faith when fears arise? Who stands above the stormy trial?
Who sends the waves that bring us nigh, unto the shore, the rock of Christ?

Unto the grave, what shall we sing? “Christ, He lives; Christ, He lives!”
And what reward will heaven bring? Everlasting life with Him
There we will rise to meet the Lord, then sin and death will be destroyed,
And we will feast in endless joy, when Christ is ours forevermore

Benediction
† We invite you to stretch out your hands as you receive the Lord’s blessing.
