Call to Worship
Luke 1:26-38
Leader: In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary.
All: And he came to her and said, "Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!" But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end."
Leader: And Mary said to the angel, "How will this be, since I am a virgin?" And the angel answered her,
All: "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy- the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God."
Leader: And Mary said, "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.
Prayer of Adoration
Angels From The Realms Of Glory
James Montgomery (1816); Arr: Paul Baloche; Jon Buurma
Angels from the realms of glory,
wing your flight o'er all the earth
Ye who sang creation's story,
now proclaim Messiah's birth
Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King
Shepherds in the field abiding
watching o'er your flocks by night
God with us is now residing
Yonder shines the infant light
Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King
CHORUS:
Emmanuel, Emmanuel
You are the God who saves us;
Worthy of all our praises
Emmanuel, Emmanuel
Come have Your way among us;
We welcome You here, Lord Jesus
Come have Your way among us;
We welcome You here, Lord Jesus
Though an infant now we view Him,
He will share his Father’s throne
Gather all the nations to Him,
every knee shall then bow down
Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King
Emmanuel, Emmanuel, Emmanuel, Emmanuel
O Savior Rend the Heavens Wide
F. von Spee, 17th century, tr. Martin L. Seltz. Music by Nathan Partain, 2019
O Savior rend the heavens wide;
Come down, come down with mighty stride;
Unlock the gates, the doors break down
Unbar the way to heaven’s crown
O Morning Star, O radiant Sun,
When shall our hearts behold your dawn?
O Sun, arise; without your light
We grope in gloom and dark of night.
Sin’s dreadful doom upon us lies;
Grim death looms fierce before our eyes.
Oh, come lead us, with mighty hand
Through exile to the promised land.
There shall we all our praises sing
Ever to you, our Savior King;
There shall we laud you and adore
Forever and forever more.
Confession of Sin
Luke 1:68-79
Leader: "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
All: for he has visited and redeemed his people
Leader: and has raised up a horn of salvation for us
All: in the house of his servant David,
Leader: as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old,
that we should be saved from our enemies
All: and from the hand of all who hate us;
Leader: to show the mercy promised to our fathers
All: and to remember his holy covenant,
Leader: the oath that he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us
All: that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies,
Leader: might serve him without fear,
All: in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.
Leader: And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High;
All: for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
Leader: to give knowledge of salvation to his people
All: in the forgiveness of their sins,
Leader: because of the tender mercy of our God,
All: whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high
Leader: to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
All: to guide our feet into the way of peace."

All my attempts to be satisfied were vain and empty
Until the moment You rescued me and Your love filled me

What blessed assurance I've found in You, I've found in You
I won't be shaken, I will not be moved
How steadfast Your strong hand is keeping me, is keeping me
I won't be shaken, I will not be moved
Oh, blessed assurance
No other love that I've ever known compares to You, God
No other love that I've ever found has done what You've done
My soul sings, now my soul sings

Ever my portion and all I need
Ever my healing, ever my hope

Sermon Passage
John 12:12-19
12 The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!" 14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, 15 "Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!" 16 His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. 17 The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. 18 The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, "You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him."
Leader: The grass withers, the flower fades,
All: ...but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Drive away the shades of night,

O come, O come, Thou Rod of Jesse free
Thine own from Satan’s tyranny
From depths of hell Thy people save
And give them vict’ry o’er the grave (Repeat Chorus)

Joy To the World
By: Isaac Watts (1719)
Joy to the world, the Lord is come
Let Earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room
And Heaven and nature sing, and Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing
Joy to the world, the Savior reigns
Let all their songs employ
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy
No more let sins and sorrows grow
Nor thorns infest the ground
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found, far as the curse is found
Far as, far as, the curse is found
He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love, and wonders of His love
And wonders, wonders, of His love
Benediction
† We invite you to stretch out your hands as you receive the Lord’s blessing.
