CALL TO WORSHIP
Psalm 105:1-6

LEADER:  Oh give thanks to the LORD;
ALL:  call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!
LEADER:  Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!
ALL:  Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!
LEADER:  Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!
ALL:  Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered, O offspring of Abraham, his servant, children of Jacob, his chosen ones!

"God Is For Us"
By: CityAlight (2018)

We won't fear the battle, we won't fear the night
We will walk the valley with You by our side
You will go before us, You will lead the way
We have found a refuge, only You can save

CHORUS:
Sing with joy now, our God is for us
The Father's love is a strong and mighty fortress
Raise your voice now, no love is greater
Who can stand against us if our God is for us

Even when I stumble, even when I fall
Even when I turn back, still Your love is sure
You will not abandon, You will not forsake
You will cheer me onward with never-ending grace

BRIDGE:
Neither height nor depth can separate us
Hell and death will not defeat us
He who gave His son to free us
Holds me in His love

"A Mighty Fortress Is Our God"
By: Martin Luther (1529)

A mighty fortress is our God,
a bulwark never failing;
our helper he, amid the flood
of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
does seek to work us woe;
his craft and power are great,
and armed with cruel hate,
on earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide,
our striving would be losing,
were not the right Man on our side,
the Man of God's own choosing.
You ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is he;
Lord Sabaoth his name,
from age to age the same;
and he must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled,
should threaten to undo us,
we will not fear, for God has willed
his truth to triumph through us.
The prince of darkness grim,
we tremble not for him;
his rage we can endure,
for lo! his doom is sure;
one little word shall fell him.

That Word above all earthly powers
no thanks to them abideth;
the Spirit and the gifts are ours
through him who with us sideth.
Let goods and kindred go,
this mortal life also;
the body they may kill:
God's truth abideth still;
his kingdom is forever!

CONFESSION OF SIN
1 Corinthians 10:1-11

LEADER:  For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink.
ALL:  For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.
LEADER:  Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.  Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did.
ALL:  Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.”  We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day.  We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer.
LEADER:  Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come.

OUR CONFESSION
Silent Prayer of Confession

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
Colossians 1:13-14

LEADER:  He has delivered us from the domain of darkness...
ALL:  and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

"Yet Not I, But Through Christ In Me"
By: CityAlight (2018)

What gift of grace is Jesus my redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom
My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to His
Oh, how strange and divine, I can sing, "All is mine"
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

The night is dark but I am not forsaken
For by my side, the Saviour He will stay
I labour on in weakness and rejoicing
For in my need, His power is displayed

To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me
Through the deepest valley He will lead
Oh, the night has been won, and I shall overcome
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven
The future's sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And He was raised to overthrow the grave

To this I hold, my sin has been defeated
Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh, the chains are released, I can sing, "I am free"
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

With every breath I long to follow Jesus
For He has said that He will bring me home
And day by day I know He will renew me
Until I stand with joy before the throne

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
All the glory evermore to Him
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat
"Yet not I, but through Christ in me"

Sermon Passage
Exodus 1:1-22

1 These are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob, each with his household: 2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, 3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, 4 Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher. 5 All the descendants of Jacob were seventy persons; Joseph was already in Egypt. 6 Then Joseph died, and all his brothers and all that generation. 7 But the people of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong, so that the land was filled with them.
8 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. 9 And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. 10 Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war breaks out, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.” 11 Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Raamses. 12 But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel. 13 So they ruthlessly made the people of Israel work as slaves 14 and made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field. In all their work they ruthlessly made them work as slaves.
15 Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah, 16 “When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him, but if it is a daughter, she shall live.” 17 But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the male children live. 18 So the king of Egypt called the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this, and let the male children live?” 19 The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them.” 20 So God dealt well with the midwives. And the people multiplied and grew very strong. 21 And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families. 22 Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, “Every son that is born to the Hebrews you shall cast into the Nile, but you shall let every daughter live.”

Sermon
"The Battlelines Are Drawn"
Pastor Chris McLaughlin

The Apostle's Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and Earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell.*  The third day he rose again from the dead.  He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.  From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,** the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

* Latin Hades, which means the place of the dead.
** Holy catholic church refers to the church universal

"You've Already Won"
Shane Barnard, Bryan Fowler (2023)

There's peace that outlasts darkness
Hope that's in the blood
There's future grace that's mine today
That Jesus Christ has won

So I can face tomorrow
For tomorrow's in Your hands
All I need You will provide
Just like You always have

CHORUS:
I'm fighting a battle that You've already won
No matter what comes my way I will overcome
I don't know what You're doing, but I know what You've done
I'm fighting a battle You've already won

There's mercy in the waiting
Manna for today
And when it's gone I know You're not
You are my hope and stay

When the sea is raging
Your Spirit is my help
He'll fix my eyes on Jesus Christ
And I'll say that it is well
I know that it is well

BRIDGE:
I know how the story ends
We will be with You again
You're my Savior, my defense
No more fear in life or death

THE LORD'S SUPPER

"We Are Yours Forever"
By: Sovereign Grace Music (2024)

O God, when You spoke into darkness
And said, “Let there be,” and it was
You made us the crown of creation
To share in Your love

And when we rejected Your goodness
To follow our foolish desires
You knew that one day You’d redeem us
Through one sacrifice

CHORUS:
Oh, what a love You have lavished on us
To call us Your children, daughters and sons
One with the Savior, bought by His blood
We are Yours forever

By grace You have made us Your family
We’re kept in Your kindness and care
With boldness we know we can bring You
Each burden we bear

And though we are longing to see You
Your Spirit within testifies
That we are adopted and treasured
Til faith becomes sight

BRIDGE:
What now can separate us
From the hope You gave us
We will be like Christ our King
We are Yours forever
