Call to Worship
Psalm 65:1-4

Leader:  Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion, and to you shall vows be performed.
All:  O you who hears prayer, to you shall all flesh come.
Leader:  When iniquities prevail against me, you atone for our transgressions.
All:  Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple!

Prayer of Adoration and Invocation

Holy, Holy, Holy
Words: Reginald Heber, 1826. Music: Nicaea, John B. Dykes, 1861. Public Domain

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee.
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Who wert and art and ever more shall be.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth, and sky, and sea;
Holy, holy, holy; merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise
By Walter Smith, 1867.

Immortal, invisible, God only wise
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days
Almighty, victorious, Thy great Name we praise

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might
Thy justice like mountains high soaring above
Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight
All laud we would render, O help us to see
'Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee

Confession of Sin
Exodus 20:2-17, Psalm 79:8-9

Leader:  "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
All:  "You shall have no other gods before me.
"You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Leader:  "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
All:  "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Leader:  "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
All:  "You shall not murder.
"You shall not commit adultery.
"You shall not steal.
"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Leader:  "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's."

Our Confession
† Silent Prayer of Confession

Assurance of Forgiveness
1 Peter 2:9-10

Leader:  But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession,
All:  that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Leader:  Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people;
All:  once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Amazing Grace
Words & Music: John Newton, 1779; John P Rees, Edwin Othello Excell.

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

T’was grace that taught my heart to fear.
And grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

The Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we first begun.

Sermon Passage
Exodus 11:1-10

1 The LORD said to Moses, "Yet one plague more I will bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will drive you away completely.  2 Speak now in the hearing of the people, that they ask, every man of his neighbor and every woman of her neighbor, for silver and gold jewelry."  3 And the LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants and in the sight of the people.
4 So Moses said, "Thus says the LORD: About midnight I will go out in the midst of Egypt,  5 and every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the slave girl who is behind the hand mill, and all the firstborn of the cattle.  6 There shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has never been, nor ever will be again.  7 But not a dog shall growl against any of the people of Israel, either man or beast, that you may know that the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.  8 And all these your servants shall come down to me and bow down to me, saying, 'Get out, you and all the people who follow you.' And after that I will go out." And he went out from Pharaoh in hot anger.  9 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh will not listen to you, that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt."
10 Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, and the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the people of Israel go out of his land.

Leader:  The grass withers, the flower fades,
All:  ...but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

Sermon
"The Lord Makes a Distinction"

To God Be the Glory
Fanny Crosby (1875)

To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
so loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
and opened the life-gate that all may go in.

REFRAIN:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,
and give Him the glory, great things He hath done.

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
to ev'ry believer the promise of God;
the vilest offender who truly believes,
that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
but purer, and higher, and greater will be
our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.

The Church’s One Foundation
Hal Hopson, Samuel Stone, Samuel S. Wesley; Arr: Perimeter Worship.

The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord
She is His new creation by water and the Word
From Heaven He came and sought her to be His holy bride
With His Own Blood He bought her, and for her life He died

Elect from every nation, yet one o’er all the earth
Her charter of salvation, one Lord, one faith, one birth
One holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food
And to one Hope she presses, with every grace endued

‘Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war
She waits the consummation of peace forevermore
Till, with the vision glorious, her longing eyes are blest
And the great church victorious shall be the church at rest

Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One
And mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won
O happy ones and holy! Lord give us grace that we
Like them the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with Thee

Benediction
† We invite you to stretch out your hands as you receive the Lord’s blessing.
