SING TOGETHER

Each week, this section will have a song for you to sing, either on your own or with your family.
Use this resource to ground the word of God in your heart throughout the week.

"Amazing Grace"
by: John Newton (1779)
Amazing grace (how sweet the sound)
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come:
'tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
his word my hope secures;
he will my shield and portion be
as long as life endures.

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
and mortal life shall cease:
I shall possess, within the veil,
a life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
the sun forbear to shine;
but God, who called me here below,
will be forever mine.

Question 1
What is your only comfort in life and in death?

Answer
That I am not my own, (1)
but belong—body and soul, in life and in death— (2)
to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. (3)
He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, (4)
and has delivered me from the tyranny of the devil. (5)
He also watches over me in such a way (6)
that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven; (7)
in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. (8)
Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, also assures me of eternal life (9)
and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him. (10)

BOOK RECOMMENDATION

Precious Remedies for Satan's Devices
by Thomas Brooks

In our struggle with sin, we sometimes downplay or even forget the advantages our enemy has over us.  Few books offer more practical pastoral advice for the sinner than Precious Remedies by Thomas Brooks.  This is not a book to read cover-to-cover.  Rather, it's functions like a reference guide with short answers to help the believer put God's Word into practice to combat sin and temptation and rest in the grace of Christ.
