Call to Worship
Isaiah 40:21-31

Leader:  To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high and see:  “Who created [every ocean, every mountain, every nation, every ruler, and every sheep of His flock]?  He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name, by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power not one [sheep] is missing.  [Children of God,] Why do you say, "My way is hidden from the LORD, and my right is disregarded by my God"?

All:  Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Prayer of Adoration

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Music:  John Wyeth Nettleton; Words: Robert Robinson, ‎1757

Come Thou fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

Here I raise my Ebenezer
Hither by Thy help I've come
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

On that day when freed from sinning
I shall see Thy lovely face
Clothed then in my blood washed linen
How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace
Come, my Lord, do not tarry
Take my ransomed soul away
Send Thine angels now to carry
Me to realms of endless days

God is For Us
By CityAlight

We won't fear the battle, we won’t fear the night
We will walk the valley with You by our side
You will go before us, You will lead the way
We have found a refuge, only You can save

CHORUS: Sing with joy now: our God is for us
The Father's love is a strong and mighty fortress
Raise your voice now, no love is greater
Who can stand against us if our God is for us

Even when I stumble, even when I fall
Even when I turn back, still Your love is sure
You will not abandon, You will not forsake
You will cheer me onward with never-ending grace [CHORUS]

BRIDGE: Neither height nor depth can separate us
Hell and death will not defeat us
He who gave His son to free us
Holds me in His love

Neither height nor depth can separate us
Hell and death will not defeat us
He who gave His son to free us
Holds me in His love [Chorus]

Prayer of Confession
Matthew 6:5-15

Leader:  "And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. "And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this:

All:  "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Leader:  For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Silent Prayers

God’s Assurance of Forgiveness
Isaiah 40:1-4

Leader:  Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the LORD's hand double for all her sins. A voice cries:

All:  "In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain."

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
Words by Helen Howarth Lemmel (1922). Tune: LEMMEL (Lemmel)

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

Turn your eyes to the hillside
Where justice and mercy embraced
There the Son of God gave His life for us
And our measureless debt was erased

CHORUS: Jesus, to You we lift our eyes
Jesus, our glory and our prize
We adore You, behold You, our Savior ever true
Oh Jesus, we turn our eyes to You

Turn your eyes to the morning
And see Christ the Lion awake
What a glorious dawn, fear of death is gone
For we carry His life in our veins (Chorus)

Turn your eyes to the heavens
Our King will return for His own
Every knee will bow, every tongue will shout
“All glory to Jesus alone!” (Chorus)

Pastoral Prayer: Thanksgiving and Intercession

Sermon Passage
Luke 11:1-13

11:1  Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples."  2 And he said to them, "When you pray, say: "Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come.  3 Give us each day our daily bread,  4 and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation."
5 And he said to them, "Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves,  6 for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him';  7 and he will answer from within, 'Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything'?  8 I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs.
9 And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  10 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.  11 What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent;  12 or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?  13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

Pastor:  The grass withers and the flower fades...
All:  ...but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

Hold Thou My Hand
Lyrics: Fanny Crosby, 1874; Music: Nathan Partain, 2015

Hold Thou my hand; so weak I am and helpless
I dare not take one step without Thy aid
Hold Thou my hand, for then, O loving Savior
No dread of ill shall make my soul afraid

Hold Thou my hand and closer, draw me closer
To Thy dear self, my hope, my joy, my all
Hold Thou my hand, lest happily I should wander
And missing Thee, my trembling feet should fall

Hold Thou my hand; the way is dark before me
Without the sunlight of Thy face divine
But when by faith I catch its radiant glory
What heights of joy, what rapturous songs are mine

Hold Thou my hand, that when I reach the margin
Of that lone river Thou didst cross for me
A heavenly light may flash along its waters
And every wave like crystal bright shall be

Hold Thou my hand; so weak I am and helpless
I dare not take one step without Thy aid
I dare not take one step without Thy aid

King of Love
Henry Williams Baker. arr. I Am They

The King of love my Shepherd is whose goodness faileth never
I nothing lack if I am His and He is mine forever, and He is mine forever

Where streams of living water flow my ransomed soul He leadeth
And where the verdant pastures grow with food celestial feedeth

CHORUS:
Never failing ruler of my heart
Everlasting lover of my soul
On the mountain high or in the valley low
The King of love my Shepherd is
The King of love my Shepherd is

Lost and foolish oft I strayed but yet in love He sought me
And on His shoulder gently laid and home, rejoicing, brought me

In death's dark vale I fear no ill with Thee, dear Lord, beside me
Thy rod and staff my comfort still, Thy cross before to guide me

BRIDGE:
Oh——— Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Oh——— Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

And so through all the length of days, Thy goodness faileth never
Good Shepherd, may I sing Your praise within Your house forever
Within Your house forever,
