Call to Worship
Psalm 148:1-14
Leader: Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise him in the heights! Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his hosts!
All: Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars! Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens!
Leader: Let them praise the name of the LORD! For he commanded and they were created. And he established them forever and ever; he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away.
All: Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all deeps, fire and hail, snow and mist, stormy wind fulfilling his word! Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars! Beasts and all livestock, creeping things and flying birds!
Leader: Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all rulers of the earth! Young men and maidens together, old men and children! Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his majesty is above earth and heaven.
All: He has raised up a horn for his people, praise for all his saints, for the people of Israel who are near to him. Praise the LORD!
Come Behold (Psalm 46)
Thief to King
CHORUS:
Come behold the wondrous works
Of the Lord Who reigns on high
Oh, be still and know that He is God
Our fortress He will be
God is our refuge and our strength, a very present aid
Therefore, although the earth gives way we will not be afraid
Though mountains move into the sea, though waters rage and foam
Although the hills may quake and fall, our hope is in the Lord
The nations rage and kingdoms move, their plotting is in vain
They all shall tremble at the voice of God above who reigns
Great desolation to the earth, He turns the wars to peace
He breaks the bow and shatters spear, all chariots to cease
All the glory to His name
O exalted He shall be
O be still and know that He is God
Our fortress He will be
Our fortress He will be
Our fortress He will be
Arise, Shine, For Your Light Has Come (Isaiah 60:1-19)
By Jered McKenna; Cardiaphonia Music (2013)
Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of God is on you
Arise, see when the earth grows dark
that the Lord will arise upon you
The Lord will arise upon you
CHORUS:
Nations will come to your light
Lift up your eyes and see
We’ll gather together and come to you
And your love will be all that we know
Your love will be all that we know
Arise, come to the open gates, for the Father is welcoming you
Fear not, for the Lord brings peace and redemption to all who believe
Redemption to all who believe
BRIDGE:
The sun will not shine ‘cause You’ll be all the light that we need
And violence will end; all the wars that we wage will cease
The sun will not shine ‘cause You’ll be all the light that we need
And violence will end; all the wars that we wage will cease
We will glorify Your Name, We will glorify Your Name
Prayer of Confession
Romans 6:12-14, 2 Timothy 2:21-22
Leader: Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
All: For our passions and desires for the wrong things, Lord, hear our prayers of repentance.
Leader: Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work. So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
All: For our good pursuits and desires that are too weak, Lord, hear our prayers of repentance.
God’s Assurance of Forgiveness
Matthew 3:13-17, 17:1-5
Leader: Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he consented. And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said,
All: "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."
Leader: And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. And Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah." He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said,
All: "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”
Leader: And now, little children, abide in [Jesus], so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming.
All: See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.
Abide With Me
Words by: Henry Francis Lyte (1847); Arrangement: Indelible Grace Music
Abide with me, fast falls the eventide
The darkness deepens, Lord with me abide
When other helpers fail and comforts flee
Help of the helpless, abide with me
Thou on my head in early youth didst smile
And though rebellious and perverse meanwhile
Thou hast not left me, though I oft left Thee
On to the close Lord, abide with me
I need Thy presence, every passing hour
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, abide with me
I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless
Ills have no weight, tears lose their bitterness
Where is thy sting death? Where grave thy vic - tor - y?
I triumph still, abide with me
Hold Thou Thy cross, before my closing eyes
Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee
In life, in death, Lord, abide with me

Sermon Passage
2 Corinthians 4:7-18
7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. 8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. 11 For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. 12 So death is at work in us, but life in you.
13 Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, "I believed, and so I spoke," we also believe, and so we also speak, 14 knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence. 15 For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.
16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. 17 For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
Pastor: The grass withers and the flower fades...
All: ...but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)
Sermon
"The Weight of Glory"
Pastor Mike McBride
Behold
Mission House, Jess Ray, Taylor Leonhardt
The empty filled, the wounded healed, the broken back together
The poor are blessed, the weary rest, we will dance forever
The blinded see, the chained are free, the doubtful now believer
The outcast known, the orphan home, You are my redeemer
CHORUS:
Behold, behold, behold what love can do
Behold, behold, He’s making all things new
The lost return, the voiceless heard, the mourner now rejoicing
The mountains shake, the world awake, creation all composing
The sad untrue, the earth renewed, the song has found its singer
The darkness light, the dead alive, You are my Redeemer
BRIDGE:
We've been struck down, we're not destroyed
We've sown in tears, we'll reap in joy

O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing
By Charles Wesley, David Crowder
O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise,
The glories of my God and King, the triumphs of His grace!
My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim
To spread through all the earth abroad the honors of Thy name.
CHORUS:
So, come on and sing out, let our anthem grow loud
There is one great love, Jesus
Jesus! the name that charms our fears, that bids our sorrows cease
'Tis music in the sinner's ears, 'tis life and health and peace.
He breaks the power of cancelled sin, He sets the prisoner free;
His blood can make the foulest clean; His blood availed for me.
[Chorus]
He speaks and listening to His voice new life the dead receive
The mournful broken hearts rejoice, the humble poor believe
Glory to God and praise and love be now and ever given
By saints below and saints above, the Church in earth and heaven. [Chorus]
BRIDGE:
