Call to Worship
Psalm 139:1-14
TO THE CHOIRMASTER. A PSALM OF DAVID.
All: O LORD, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.
Leader: Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?
All: If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, "Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,"
Leader: even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you. For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
All: I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
Praise to the Lord, The Almighty
By: Joachim Neander (1680); Trans. by: Catherine Winkworth (1863); Nathan & Christy Nockels (2004)
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation
O my soul, praise Him, for He is your health and salvation
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near
Praise Him in glad adoration
Praise to the Lord, who o'er all things so wondrously reigneth
Shelters thee under His wings, Yea so gently sustaineth
Hast thou not seen how thy desires e’er have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do
If with His love He befriend thee
Praise to the Lord! Oh, let all that is in me adore Him
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him
Let the amen sound from his people again
Gladly for aye we adore Him
Let the amen sound from his people again
Gladly for aye we adore Him
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
In Tenderness
By W. Spencer Walton (1894); Arr. by Citizens
In tenderness He sought me; weary and sick with sin
And on His shoulders brought me back to His fold again
While angels in His presence sang; until the courts of heaven rang
CHORUS:
Oh oh oh, the love that sought me!
Oh oh oh, the blood that bought me!
Oh, the grace that brought me to the fold of God
Grace that brought me to the fold of God
He died for me while I was sinning needy and poor and blind
He whispered to assure me, ”I've found thee; thou art Mine"
I never heard a sweeter voice; it made my aching heart rejoice
Upon His grace I'll ponder and sing anew His praise
With all adoring wonder His blessings I retrace
It seems as if eternal days are far too short to sing His praise
Confession of Sin
Psalm 139:23-24, 32:1-5
All: Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
Leader: Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
All: For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah
I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.
Silent Prayers
Assurance of Forgiveness
Psalm 103:11-13
Leader: For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
All: as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
Leader: As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him.
Blessed Assurance
CityAlight
All my attempts to be satisfied were vain and empty
Until the moment You rescued me and Your love filled me
My soul sings, now my soul sings
CHORUS:
What blessed assurance I've found in You, I've found in You
I won't be shaken, I will not be moved
How steadfast Your strong hand is keeping me, is keeping me
I won't be shaken, I will not be moved
Oh, blessed assurance
No other love that I've ever known compares to You, God
No other love that I've ever found has done what You've done
My soul sings, now my soul sings
BRIDGE:
Ever my anchor, ever my strength
Ever my portion and all I need
Ever my healing, ever my hope
Ever the truth that leads me home
That leads me home

Sermon Passage
Psalm 73
A PSALM OF ASAPH.
1 Truly God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. 2 But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled, my steps had nearly slipped.
3 For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 4 For they have no pangs until death; their bodies are fat and sleek. 5 They are not in trouble as others are; they are not stricken like the rest of mankind. 6 Therefore pride is their necklace; violence covers them as a garment. 7 Their eyes swell out through fatness; their hearts overflow with follies. 8 They scoff and speak with malice; loftily they threaten oppression. 9 They set their mouths against the heavens, and their tongue struts through the earth. 10 Therefore his people turn back to them, and find no fault in them. 11 And they say, "How can God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?" 12 Behold, these are the wicked; always at ease, they increase in riches. 13 All in vain have I kept my heart clean and washed my hands in innocence. 14 For all the day long I have been stricken and rebuked every morning. 15 If I had said, "I will speak thus," I would have betrayed the generation of your children.
16 But when I thought how to understand this, it seemed to me a wearisome task, 17 until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I discerned their end. 18 Truly you set them in slippery places; you make them fall to ruin. 19 How they are destroyed in a moment, swept away utterly by terrors! 20 Like a dream when one awakes, O Lord, when you rouse yourself, you despise them as phantoms. 21 When my soul was embittered, when I was pricked in heart, 22 I was brutish and ignorant; I was like a beast toward you.
23 Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. 24 You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory. 25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
27 For behold, those who are far from you shall perish; you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you. 28 But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.
Leader: The grass withers, the flower fades,
All: but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

Hold Thou My Hand
Lyrics: Fanny Crosby, 1874; Music: Nathan Partain, 2015
Hold Thou my hand; so weak I am and helpless
I dare not take one step without Thy aid
Hold Thou my hand, for then, O loving Savior
No dread of ill shall make my soul afraid
Hold Thou my hand and closer, draw me closer
To Thy dear self, my hope, my joy, my all
Hold Thou my hand, lest happily I should wander
And missing Thee, my trembling feet should fall
Hold Thou my hand; the way is dark before me
Without the sunlight of Thy face divine
But when by faith I catch its radiant glory
What heights of joy, what rapturous songs are mine
Hold Thou my hand, that when I reach the margin
Of that lone river Thou didst cross for me
A heavenly light may flash along its waters
And every wave like crystal bright shall be
Hold Thou my hand; so weak I am and helpless
I dare not take one step without Thy aid
I dare not take one step without Thy aid

The Church’s One Foundation

The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord
She is His new creation by water and the Word
From Heaven He came and sought her to be His holy bride
With His Own Blood He bought her, and for her life He died
Elect from every nation, yet one o’er all the earth
Her charter of salvation, one Lord, one faith, one birth
One holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food
And to one Hope she presses, with every grace endued
CHORUS:
Hallelujah! Our salvation; Jesus Christ is our foundation
Hallelujah! Our salvation; Jesus Christ is our foundation
‘Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war
She waits the consummation of peace forevermore
Till, with the vision glorious, her longing eyes are blest
And the great church victorious shall be the church at rest
Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One
And mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won
O happy ones and holy! Lord give us grace that we
Like them the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with Thee
Benediction
† We invite you to stretch out your hands as you receive the Lord’s blessing.
