WORSHIP AT THE FIELDS

While worship is something that we do all the time with our whole lives (Romans 12:1), it also refers to the gathering of believers each Sunday. God Himself calls all Christians to worship, and He also helps us know how to worship Him in a pattern that we call a liturgy.

We see this pattern all over the Bible.  We see it in Exodus 24:1-11 when God called Moses, Aaron, and 72 others halfway up Mount Sinai for worship.  We see it again in Isaiah 6:1-8 when Isaiah had a vision of Christ in the heavenly throne room.  We see it in the Psalms, in the sacrifices of Leviticus, and even hints of it in the Garden of Eden!  God has given us a liturgy to follow when we gather to worship Him.

THE LITURGY PATTERN

1. CALL TO WORSHIP
God calls His people to gather and worship Him.
(Exodus 24:1-2; Isaiah 6:1-4; Leviticus 9:1-6)

Gathering for worship each Sunday is a gift! God calls His people into His special presence which helps us know that God desires to be near to us (Hebrews 10:24-25).

2. CONFESSION OF SIN & ASSURANCE OF PARDON
God purifies His people to enter into His presence.
(Exodus 24:6, 8; Isaiah 6:5-7; Leviticus 9:7-11)

By faith, we are declared holy by God because of the death and resurrection of Jesus. In our confession and assurance, we confess our sin and remember Christ's death and resurrection that secured our forgiveness so we can approach the throne of grace with confidence (Hebrews 10:19-23).

3. SCRIPTURE READING & SERMON
God instructs His people and makes us more like His Son.
(Exodus 24:3-5, 7; Isaiah 6:8-13; Leviticus 9:12-16)

God doesn't just forgive our sin, but He also forms us into the likeness of His Son (Romans 8:29). Through the reading and preaching of His Word, we aren't just hearing the ideas of a human pastor, we are listening for the very Word of God to us (1 Thessalonians 2:13).

4. CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE
God's people respond to God's Word.
(Exodus 24:3, 7; Isaiah 6:8; Leviticus 9:17)

After we hear from God, it is only appropriate for worshippers to respond to His Word. This can be done in many different ways, including singing a song, confessing a creed, giving an offering, or saying a prayer together.

5. THE LORD'S SUPPER
God invites His people to His house for a meal.
(Exodus 24:9-11; Leviticus 9:18-21)

In Old Testament worship, worshippers would offer a peace offering where the worshipper would prepare a meal that they would eat in God's house.  God, who truly loves us, invites us to His house for dinner!  The same idea is found in the Lord's Supper today.  Worshippers eat bread and drink wine as a friendship meal with God who desires to be with us.

6. BENEDICTION
God gives a blessing.
(Leviticus 9:22-23)

As God sends us out from worship, He blesses us so we never forget that He is always with us and that He is our source for life, strength, peace, joy, and all good things (Matthew 28:18-20; Numbers 6:22-26).

MUSIC

Not a concert, but responding to God with music together.

Music is a powerful medium for communicating truth with emotion. Following the practice of worshippers of God for thousands of years, we sing together, not to put on a concert, but to worship God and encourage one another.
At The Fields, we sing contemporary songs of praise, hymns, and Psalms set to music. (Colossians 3:16) We sing scripture together and embrace the rich history of music in the church.
If some of the songs we sing are unfamiliar to you, subscribe to our Spotify Playlist called "One Week Out!"  It's updated weekly with the songs that we will be singing the next week during worship.
